After much anticipation, the Small Cities Development Program (SCDP) will be kicking off in the City of Sartell. The Central Minnesota Housing Partnership has scheduled an informational meeting for home and rental property owners in Sartell who are interested in participating in the program.

The home owner meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM on Thursday, October 24th at the Sartell Community Center. The Rental property owners meeting will follow, starting at approximately 7:00 PM. The day will represent the official start of the Small Cities Development Program, which was first put in motion over one year ago. “It’s a long process to receive this funding, but the hard part is over”, said Program Manager Ed Zimny of the Central Minnesota Housing Partnership. “Now it’s time for the rewarding part; fixing up homes”.

Those attending will learn about program requirements, the application process and construction project steps. Applications will be available at the meeting. “Attending the meeting is very important as applications will be available for the first time and funding is awarded on a first come, first served basis”, said Zimny.

The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) awarded funding in June to the City of Sartell. A total of $513,000 was awarded to complete a minimum of four homeowner, five single family rentals, one duplex, and 24 units of multi-family rental projects in the targeted areas of the city. The award also covers the cost of administration for the two year term of the grant. The target area for homeowners is described as follows: Starting at the intersection of 1st Ave NE and 6th St. NE moving North on 1st Ave NE up to 9th St. NE. Then East on 9th St. NE to 3rd Ave NE. Then South on 3rd Ave NE to 6th St. NE. Then West on 6th St. NE back to 1st Ave NE.  There is also a target area for the multi-family and duplex rental properties and is described as follows: Starting at the intersection of 4th Ave N and 2nd St. N, moving South on 4th Ave N to the alley way. Then West on the alley way to 5th Ave N. Then North on 5th Ave N to 2 ½ St. N. Then East on 2 ½ St. N to 3rd Ave N. Then South on 3rd Ave N to 2nd St. N and then West on 2nd St. N back to 4th Ave N. The single family rental program is city wide.
