Welcome to Sartell’s Home of Crime Prevention
The Sartell Police Department currently has 21 sworn peace officers, a community service/code enforcement officer, three non-sworn support staff and fourteen volunteer Reserve Officers. Our current rank structure is Chief of Police, Deputy Police Chief, Sergeant and Patrol Officer. We provide police protection to the city’s population of 18,000 plus, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Our mission is to provide our community with a professional, progressive, community-oriented police department and to enforce the laws, preserve the peace, reduce fear and provide for a safe environment within our community.
What is Community Policing?
Community policing focuses on crime and social disorder through the delivery of police services that includes aspects of traditional law enforcement, as well as prevention, problem-solving, community engagement, and partnerships. The community policing balances reactive responses to calls for service with proactive problem-solving centered on the causes of crime and disorder. Community policing requires police and citizens to join together as partners in the course of both identifying and effectively addressing these issues.
The Sartell Police Department relishes its role as keepers of the peace in our community. The members of our department strive to be professional in their performance and committed to their duties.
The police department responds to and or documents over 13,000 incidents per year. These incidents range from barking dog calls and traffic violations to drug crimes, assaults and robbery. Although the amount of calls for service to the police department has increased yearly, the more severe crimes such as those listed below remain fairly consistent. These crimes are called ‘reportable’ crimes because all law enforcement agencies are required to provide those statistics to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. These statistics are used to provide information on the national crime trend throughout the United States.
